Overview

Rambus Labs is seeking a talented Senior Member of the Technical Staff (SMTS) to research and develop future memory system architectures that will have real world impact. The SMTS will be responsible for working with our most senior technologists researching and architecting future DRAM-based memory subsystems.

 

Rambus Labs is the Advanced Research and Development division of Rambus Inc. responsible for developing breakthrough solutions to solve future architecture and technology challenges. The SMTS will work alongside some of the brightest engineers and inventors in the world developing future memory architectures in an environment where innovations and contributions are highly valued and recognized.

 

The SMTS will be part of the Memory Architecture Research Group and will report to a Fellow leading work in this area. This full-time role is based in our headquarters office in San Jose, CA. Exceptional candidates that are remote will be considered, with the expectation for periodic travel to our San Jose, CA office. The SMTS will work alongside a team of experienced thought leaders in advanced memory systems tasked with investigating, developing, and patenting solutions across the memory hierarchy. This group is responsible for projecting market and technology trends 5+ years in the future, identifying key roadblocks and disruptive opportunities ahead of the industry, and architecting solutions that can lead to significant future revenue streams. We focus on solving technical challenges in the enterprise and data center markets, and work with other business units across the company. Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and model memory system architectures and innovative solutions to address memory system problems facing the Data Center and Enterprise markets.
  • Research the impact that technologies and use cases like AI, virtualization, disaggregation, and coherent interconnects have on future memory systems.
  • Analyze trends and predict future system requirements, identify key challenges and opportunities for innovation.
  • Work with the Memory Architecture Research Group to propose new memory technologies and features and work with product groups as appropriate.
  • File patents where appropriate.
  • Publish and/or present at relevant conferences and industry events where appropriate

Qualifications

PhD with 3+ years of relevant research experience (advanced degrees are preferred, PhD research in relevant areas counts as research experience)

OR

BSEE/MS or similar technical degree with 5+ years of industry experience

 

Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in DRAM-based memory system architecture is a must.
  • Knowledge of server architectures is a must.
  • Knowledge of one or more memory standards (DDRx, HBMx, LPDDRx, LRDIMM, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of server software architectures (Operating Systems, Virtual Machines, Firmware, etc.) and their interaction with memory systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with performance modeling and analysis of memory subsystems is highly desirable.
  • A track record of developing and researching innovative memory system solutions is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with current data center system configurations, applications, and performance limitations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of storage system architectures, especially SSDs, is a plus.

The US salary range for this full-time position is $84,700 to $157,300. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location and market conditions.
