A Collaborative Venture into the Next Frontier of Ambient Computing
Sam Altman of OpenAI and Jony Ive, Apple’s former chief design officer, are collaborating to develop a new device aimed at delivering the benefits of AI in a novel form factor, moving beyond the conventional rectangular screen that has dominated computing for the past decade.
The project, which is in its preliminary stages, has explored early concepts and sought up to $1 billion in funding from SoftBank, potentially leveraging the semiconductor expertise of Arm, a British chip design company.
The envisioned device, which is expected to succeed the smartphone, could take various forms, such as a pendant or glasses, and would utilize advanced virtual assistants to process real-time information, answer questions, and process images.
