Advantest America is a leading provider of semiconductor test and measurement solutions. As part of our commitment to innovation, we are expanding our Global Thermal R&D Team to advance thermal technologies across the semiconductor value chain.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Thermal-mechanical R&D Engineer to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge thermal systems for semiconductor-, photonics-, and embedded device testing. The ideal candidate will bring a diverse engineering skill set and a passion for solving complex thermal challenges through hands-on experimentation, design, and cross-functional collaboration.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments to characterize the performance of thermal systems and components.
  • Define test methodologies and develop custom setups for engineering data collection.
  • Perform hands-on evaluation of prototype thermal components and systems.
  • Drive technology performance improvements based on empirical data and analysis.
  • Design and develop thermal components such as thermal interfaces for active thermal control in semiconductor test environments.
  • Collaborate with design and development teams to integrate thermal solutions into product architecture.
  • Optimize thermal designs to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance thermal performance.

 

Qualifications

Requirements, Education & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Master’s degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in thermal design or test engineering, preferably in a high-tech environment.
  • Strong understanding of conduction and convection-based thermal systems; experience with chillers and heat exchangers is a plus.
  • Experience in electronic packaging, automated handling, and integration of thermal systems.
  • Familiarity with heaters, Peltiers, heatsinks, sockets, two-phase cooling, cryogenics, airflow uniformity, and condensation abatement.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design using SolidWorks.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams spanning multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with international teams across time zones.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%).
  • This is an on-site role based at our Lake Forest, CA facility
