Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Architectural Design: Lead the investigation for advanced analog IC architectures for high-speed optical communication systems, including TIAs, laser drivers, and other critical components.
  • Technology Evaluation: Compare and assess different architectural approaches and process nodes to determine the most effective solutions for next-generation optical transceivers.
  • Design Optimization: Optimize analog circuit performance, including speed, power efficiency, and noise performance, to meet the stringent requirements of high-speed optical communication.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering teams, including internal IC department, external IC suppliers, internal transceiver business unit, and external customers to gather product requirements and feasibility of integration into the full end system solution.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest industry trends and technological advancements to drive innovation in optical communication solutions.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed design documentation and presentations to communicate design decisions and project status to stakeholders.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, mentor team members, and drive innovation.
  • 20+ years of experience in analog IC design with a focus on high-speed optical communication systems, including TIAs and laser drivers.

Skills

  • Proven track record in developing and optimizing analog IC architectures for optical transceivers, with a deep understanding of high-speed signaling, noise management, and power efficiency.
  • Proficiency in analog design tools and simulation software, strong knowledge of process technologies, and experience with both current and emerging optical communication standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem-solving skills.
  • Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp.

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Visual acuity for detailed IC design review and simulation work
