Job Summary:
As an EHS Safety Specialist at Pentagon, your main responsibility is to ensure that employees can work safely by planning, implementing, and overseeing company safety programs. You will work to create a proactive safety culture, so that employees feel comfortable communicating potential issues, concerns and ideas for improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Organize and conduct safety training programs for employees, including emergency response drills.
- Investigate and analyze accidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain safety records, including incident reports, training documentation, and safety data sheets.
- Collaborate with management and department heads to develop and update safety protocols and procedures.
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Stay up to date on safety regulations and industry best practices to continuously improve workplace safety.
- Define safety objectives for new hires during orientation to cultivate and promote a safe and positive work culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related field or 5-10 years’ experience in related fields.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Proficient in using safety management software and tools.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong background in construction safety and Project management preferred
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Proficient in using safety equipment and tools
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and first-aid techniques
- Experience with Microsoft, Microsoft teams, PowerPoint, Excel and auditor safety software
- Project Management ability to develop schedules and drive projects to completion
