Role Overview: The Midlevel Software Asset Management (SAM) professional supports the end-to-end lifecycle of software and hardware assets, including procurement, deployment, utilization, and retirement. This includes managing license allocations, tracking renewals, optimizing usage, ensuring compliance, and assisting in audits. The role involves maintaining accurate CMDB records, performing data and cost analysis, and coordinating with vendors and stakeholders. The professional contributes to process efficiency, automation, and reporting to support overall SAM and HAM lifecycle objectives.
What will you do:
Apply knowledge of licensing metrics, including core based, processor based, concurrent and named user models, to manage license allocations and requests.
Work with major publishers such as Microsoft, Oracle, VMware, SAP, ANSYS, Autodesk to manage licensing metrics and support vendor coordination and renewal activities.
Perform data and cost analysis on software and hardware usage to support budgeting and Optimization.
Implement Optimization procedures to improve license utilization and reduce costs.
Ensure compliance with licensing agreements and assist in audit preparations.
Track and execute license renewals as per the defined process and timelines.
Generate reports on asset inventory, utilization and costs, and analyze the data for improvement opportunities.
Perform Effective License Positioning (ELP) to align license s with usage and optimize entitlements.
Conduct license harvesting to reclaim unused or underused licenses and reassign them efficiently.
Assist in hardware asset management tasks and ensure alignment with software asset management.
Update and maintain the CMDB to reflect accurate asset and configuration data.
Automate routine tasks and processes in day-to-day operations to improve efficiency.
Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors, supporting vendor negotiations and license and contract management.
Prepare and maintain Power BI dashboard.
Strong communication and coordination skills for working with Stakeholder, vendors, Legal and Purchase.
Knowledge of SAM tools such as Snow Software and Flexera.
What you will need:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
Asset Management Engineer: 3–5 years of experience in IT asset management or related roles.
Strong understanding of software and hardware asset lifecycles, including procurement, deployment, usage, optimization, and retirement.
In depth knowledge of licensing metrics and models (core based, processor based, concurrent, and named user) across major publishers such as Microsoft, Oracle, VMware, SAP, ANSYS, and Autodesk….
Proficiency in Software Asset Management tools such as Snow Software and Flexera, with working knowledge of reporting and dashboard generation.
Analytical and problem-solving skills to perform data, cost, and utilization analysis for optimization and compliance using Excel, Power query and Power BI
Experience in compliance management and audit readiness, ensuring adherence to licensing agreements and regulatory standards.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with vendors, stakeholders, and cross functional teams.
Technical familiarity with automation and scripting tools, including VB scripting, PowerShell, and SQL, to streamline SAM and HAM processes will be added advantage
