Position Overview:

SK hynix is seeking an experienced AI Data Center Engineering & Build Contractor to join our AI DC Solution team for a 6-12 month engagement. This role requires expertise in designing, planning, and managing the construction of AI-optimized data center facilities. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with high-density compute environments and a comprehensive understanding of the unique requirements that AI workloads demand from physical infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Guide critical infrastructure decisions and implementation and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our data center facilities meet the stringent requirements of modern AI computing while adhering to industry standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Translate AI workload requirements into physical infrastructure specifications. This includes conducting detailed power demand analysis for GPU clusters, designing robust cooling architectures capable of handling heat densities exceeding traditional data center norms, and ensuring water resource planning aligns with sustainability goals and local regulations. You will be responsible for overseeing the engineering phases from initial site assessment through construction/retrofit completion.
  • Serve as the technical authority on AI data center build projects, providing guidance on permit acquisition strategies, certification pathways, and compliance frameworks.
  • identifying potential bottlenecks early in the design phase and proposing innovative solutions that balance performance requirements with operational efficiency and cost considerations.

Continuous Contribution Areas:

  • Conduct design reviews, troubleshoot construction challenges, and optimize build timelines throughout the contract engagement.
  • Provide technical mentorship to internal teams and document best practices and lessons learned to ensure knowledge transfer for future projects.
  • Contribute insights that shape our long-term AI infrastructure strategy while delivering immediate value on active build initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record in AI data center engineering and construction.
  • Experience in at least two full AI data center build cycles (planning through commissioning).
  • Direct experience designing power infrastructure for GPU-dense environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with liquid cooling systems, high-voltage electrical distribution, and redundancy architectures.
  • Strong understanding of power requirements for AI training and inference workloads.
  • Ability to plan power densities from 30kW to 100kW+ per rack.
  • Knowledge of advanced cooling solutions, including direct-to-chip liquid cooling and rear-door heat exchangers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in data center engineering, with 3+ years focused on AI/ML infrastructure.
  • Proven track record managing multi-million dollar construction budgets.
  • Experience coordinating with general contractors and subcontractors to ensure project success.
  • Successful delivery of projects on time and within scope.
  • Strong communication skills for translating complex technical requirements to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and construction crews.
