The Controls Engineer leads the definition, specification and validation of highly reliable electronics for ALD process modules. Participates in cross-functional teams and works with other engineers and engineering groups to outline and create controls and electrical systems as well as associated engineering documentation. Contributes to roadmap planning, promotes innovation and incorporates relevant new technologies and methodologies. Provides guidance to the team with different technologies including cPCI, PCIe, PLC, EtherCAT, differential signaling, wideband circuits; high speed embedded computing, VHDL, distributed signal acquisition, and signal integrity in a noisy environment. Assists management with schedule and project planning activities.
Responsibilities:
- Define, specify and oversee subsystems to meet the overall system specifications, costs and project planning boundaries. Cooperate with other disciplines and suppliers to ensure the timely realization of reliable, high availability and serviceable products. Participate in the definition of system specifications.
- Serve as a technical expert for one or more control subsystems, capable of independent decision making for critical technical issues.
- Applies broad knowledge in sensors, actuators, control algorithms, automation, software and data analysis tools to drive control system improvements to enable continuously improvements to t-ALD products and systems availability.
- Lead the design and building of tools that allow debugging, analysis and performance evaluation of control system performance.
- Participate in root cause analysis for control system failures in products for integration and field tools during escalations.
- Lead and perform integration activity including troubleshooting the control system, designing and executing test plans to ensure the process modules functions as designed/intended.
- Document results and compare results w.r.t marketing requirements documentation and engineering requirement documents.
- Generates software requirements specifications for control algorithm design.
- Influence stakeholders to realize the hardware architecture changes and design methods.
- Feasibility study for new design and build up simulation models for concept design
- Design electrical board-level schematics according to the requirement documents.
Education & Experience:
- Requires a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Ph.D. degree preferred.
- Specialization in advanced control system preferred.
- Minimum 0-3 Years of Experience in relevant field
- Requires design experience with relevant technologies.
- Capable of delivering quality structured text, C or C++ code in a real time environment.
- Hands-on experience working with serial communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, etc.)
- Hands-on in bringing up hardware (motors, actuators, sensors, LED, thermocouple, RTD, microcontrollers, amplifiers, power supplies, ADCs and DACs, etc.)
- Experience with design tools for schematic, layout and simulation, such as Cadence, PSpice, LTspice and Simulink.
- Proficient in one of High-Level programming language (C#, Java, Python etc.) is a plus.
- Experience with Ether-CAT is a plus.
