The Legal Compliance Organization (LCO) team headquartered in Milpitas, CA and second headquarters in Ann Arbor, MI provides legal guidance to further KLA’s strategic objectives and protect and preserve the legal, ethical and financial integrity and reputation of the Company. With specific expertise in the areas of corporate law, commercial law, employment law, and intellectual property; the LCO offers strategic legal counsel that is informed by a clear understanding of the company’s business objectives and expertise in the laws and regulations relevant to the business worldwide.
Job Description
Reporting into KLA’s Trade Compliance Manager for China in KLA’s Shanghai office, the individual in this role will be a member of a global team and support import and export compliance activities for all KLA offices and KLA subsidiaries in China, lead import/export classification reviews, and support daily operational activities (e.g., “ebook,” license application, export screening, and customer due diligence), maintain import and export functional procedures, and assist with training on trade compliance-related issues and topics. The individual will also support regional trade compliance activities and company-wide trade compliance projects, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Trade Compliance Program Manager for China by analyzing trade compliance regulatory developments, assessing impacts to the business, and supporting and executing on projects designed to ensure KLA’s continued compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Lead local HS classification reviews and compliance with import “ebook” requirements
- Support trade compliance awareness training across all KLA locations within China and other locations
- Maintain standard trade compliance procedures for all KLA locations in China and other locations
- Support trade compliance audits to assess potential risk and track corrective actions
- Assist with local import/export licensing process
- Support daily operations needs and urgent shipments by reviewing/releasing ad hoc export orders, as needed
- Conduct trade compliance due diligence and risk assessment of third parties such as customers, vendors, and subcontractors
- Support KLA Global Trade Compliance team on corporate projects.
- Qualifications
- BS is preferred, along with 3-5 years Trade Compliance experience and a good understanding of the international business environment
- Good knowledge of China import/export regulations, especially mechanical and electrical product HS tariff classification and customs declaration requirements. Knowledge of customs valuation and country-of-origin requirements a plus.
- Experience with SAP’s automated import/export compliance software system (GTS)
- Knowledge of US export/reexport regulations is helpful
- Technical/engineering background or experience is helpful
- Able to effectively collaborate and communicate with cross-functional colleagues in a global environment
- Good analytical skills
- Experience in high-tech industry or the semiconductor industry is preferred
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others
- Able to work across multiple time zones
Minimum Qualifications
