Here at Entegris, we use advanced science to enable technologies that transform the world, and we are seeking employees who have the drive to continue that mission.
The Role:
Entegris is seeking a Materials Engineering Scientist to join our growing team, in support of CMP Pad and Brush development. This position will ideally be located at our site in Aurora, IL, but we are flexible to have the position located in Hillsboro, OR for the right candidate.
Chemical Mechanical Planarization (or CMP) is an integral part of the semiconductor process, and Entegris is the world-leading CMP consumable supplier for the semiconductor industry. We have accomplished this by having a world class and diverse CMP materials research and development team that includes scientists and engineers from many different disciplines who collaborate directly with our customers to develop leading edge technologies.
If you are hired as our new Materials Enginering Scientist, you will be responsible for developing innovative polymer materials and designs for Entegris’s Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) Pad and Post CMP (PCMP) Cleaning Brush products. You will grow your fundamental understanding of product performance in target applications, and work in a cross functional environment with our business, customer interfacing, and commercialization teams to develop cutting-edge new products and solve polymer material and engineering problems. Your results and efforts will have a direct impact on advancing semiconductor technology, enabling a whole new generation of electronic devices!
What you’ll do:
Develop new materials to meet the design intent for CMP Pad and PCMP Brush products. Learn about and identify the thermal-mechanical, structura,l and chemical design rules of different CMP applications in order to improve the understanding of structure-property-CMP performance relationships with advanced knowledge of scientific principles, experimental design, and advanced characterizations
Work closely with designers, other scientists, and engineers to develop unique pad/brush solutions. Apply 'division of labor' principle for achieving the requirements around Materials, Design Geometry, etc.Translate CMP requirements into Materials and Chemistry designs and develop material solutions accordingly
Partner with commercialization team to develop strategies to scale up the new designs and prototypes, from lab scale to prototyping scale, and to product scale to support internal testing, customer sampling and qualifications
Develop Material's Design Rules and build a knowledge base around such. Own the materials database, including Materials Design specifications for pads and brushes. Identify and develop Materials Design rules for Pads and Brushes for different CMP applications
Become familiar with Materials Testing methods for Polymers; Develop internal testing capabilities and identify external partners. Apply advanced testing methods to build Pads and Brush Materials Relational Database
Collaborate with internal supply chain material expert and occasionally with suppliers to design new raw materials, identify new sources, and optimize raw material for the scale-up of our product
What we seek:
Ph.D. in Materials Science and/or Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field required
Expertise with Engineering Polymers, and the drive to stay up-to-date with new materials research, prototyping methods, expertise with tuning polymer bulk and surface properties
Minimum of 5 years of Consumable Polymer Materials research and development/new product development experience for industrial applications, to include the following sectors: semiconductor, automotive, packaging, construction materials, medical devices, etc.
Experience designing materials with specific surface properties and an understanding of methods of Surface Modifications
Proven track record of safe laboratory practices and methodology
Experience in Design of Experiment principles and advanced statistical data analysis
A self-motivated drive toward success, creative problem-solving ability, and the flexibility and adaptability to succeed in a fast-paced, customer focused organization
Capability to contribute effectively as an individual contributor or as a part of highly interdisciplinary team
Good oral and written communications skills
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, domestically and internationally
Outstanding Candidates Will Have:
Experience in designing composite materials and understanding the effects of Matrix and Additive species for bulk materials, to include: Particles, Fibers, CNT etc .
Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC, Engineering Design Workflow, and Materials Modeling
Experience in the Stage Gate process for new product development
