Broadcom and OpenAI are working together to develop custom AI chips to reduce their reliance on Nvidia's GPUs and lower costs. They aim to create dedicated AI chips for OpenAI's servers to improve advanced models like ChatGPT and DALL-E. OpenAI is hiring former Google engineers to speed up this project.

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, plans to raise funds to build semiconductor plants, possibly with Intel, TSMC, and Samsung. Broadcom's expertise will help support OpenAI's infrastructure needs. The new AI chips might start production by 2026, moving towards AI hardware independence.

OpenAI has also opened an office in Japan to explore new opportunities and collaborations. This expansion fits their goal of building semiconductor factories, needing significant investment.

Wall Street is positive, with Broadcom's stock up 50% this year. This partnership could lead both companies to the forefront of AI technology, reducing dependency on current market leaders.
